4th April Agora

Back on the 11th plenary meeting of the Agora, Strasbourg European Capital which was held at the Eurometropole on Monday, April 4th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm 

Emilie, our network coordinator, was there to represent Y-E-N.

The meeting started with a welcoming speech from the Mayor of Strasbourg, Jeanne BARSEGHIAN on the latest European news: French Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Conference on the future of Europe, European Year of Youth 2022, war in Ukraine,…).

 Then there was the restitution of the local citizens’ convention by Mr. Hervé Moritz of the European Movement Alsace. This Convention took place over 2 weekends, the first one from February 25 to 26 at the Espace 23 and the second one on March 18 and 19 at the FEC.

Then, the deputy in charge of the inclusion, Floriane VARIERAS presented the actions of the City to consolidate Strasbourg as a Capital of human rights and a hospitable city. With the current situation in Ukraine, the City of Strasbourg has developed actions to help the victims. 

This was followed by the presentation of ANVITA: National Association of Welcoming Cities and Territories, which brings together local authorities and elected officials wishing to work towards a policy of unconditional welcome and to promote hospitality in their territories.

Our former Secretary General Véronique BERTHOLLE, now deputy in charge of European Relations and International Affairs, presented the program of the Europe Day 2022 “the Europe Day must allow everyone to meet and exchange during the different events”, it is a festive event and our Ukrainian friends will not be forgotten.  

This plenary meeting was concluded by the Mayor, who made a point that Strasbourg is a strong bearer of European values and provides dignified and unconditional welcome for refugees. 

She concluded by reminding that the “Strasbourg Appeal” was elaborated taking into account this welcoming parameter, and that everyone is invited to support this message by signing it to give even more weight to the Europe of Strasbourg.
