EYE 2023

The Youth Express Network (Y-E-N) recently participated in the fifth edition of the European Youth Event (EYE 2023), which took place on June 9th and 10th at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. EYE 2023 provided an unparalleled opportunity for young people aged 16 to 30 to come together, exchange ideas, and shape the future of Europe. The event featured both in-person and hybrid activities, fostering cooperation with institutions, international organizations, and other participants. Let’s delve into the experiences and insights shared by the Y-E-N team that took part in the event.

Diverse perspectives and constructive exchanges:

The members of the Y-E-N team were motivated by the possibility of contributing their ideas on urgent issues and connecting with people from different backgrounds. According to Lamyaa Mahiri, one of our participants, the cultural diversity encountered at the event enriched her through meaningful conversations. She described her experience at EYE 2023 as “constructive,” highlighting the importance of involving young people in decision-making processes to achieve a more inclusive society.

Applying knowledge and experiences to future projects:

The ideas derived from EYE 2023 have inspired Y-E-N participants to take action within their own networks. Lamyaa expressed her intention to share her experience with her network and encourage participation in future editions. Additionally, she plans to apply the knowledge gained at the event to her studies, particularly in her research on democracy. The experience of EYE 2023 proved invaluable by providing her with relevant ideas and perspectives.

Enrique Bernabeu, an inspiring speaker, served as a catalyst for Laura’s aspirations at EYE 2023. Bernabeu emphasized the importance of using social media platforms to raise awareness and advocate for the rights of people with disabilities. Laura was deeply inspired by Bernabeu’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion. As a result, she has set a goal to improve her presence on social media and work towards implementing a four-day workweek. This illustrates the transformative impact of the EYE experience, igniting a passion in Laura to advocate for change and create a more inclusive society.

Engaging in constructive dialogue and taking action:

Initially, some participants faced challenges in establishing connections due to the unfamiliar environment. However, as the event progressed, they found the courage to actively participate in discussions and various debates. This active involvement not only fostered their personal development but also enabled participants to confidently express their opinions.

The knowledge gained and the connections established at EYE 2023 instilled a sense of responsibility in Y-E-N participants. They are determined to continue their engagement by promoting the right to vote and encouraging dialogue within their communities. These young advocates understand that collective efforts are necessary to make their voices heard and bring about meaningful change.

The European Youth Event 2023 provided a platform for young people to come together, share ideas, and actively shape the future of Europe. The experiences shared by Y-E-N participants reflect the transformative impact of EYE 2023. Through constructive exchanges, cultural enrichment, and networking opportunities, participants were motivated to apply their newfound knowledge and experiences to their future projects.

The event emphasized the importance of empowering young people, democratic engagement, and inclusion. By harnessing the power of dialogue, EYE 2023 demonstrated that young people have the potential to influence decision-making processes and contribute to the construction of an inclusive and sustainable society.

As the Youth Express Network continues its mission to represent and support young people with fewer opportunities, the insights gained from EYE 2023 will serve as a foundation for their ongoing efforts. By amplifying the voices of young people and advocating for their active participation, the network aims to create a society where youth, their needs, and their contributions are recognized, valued, and appreciated.
